Scar Revision to Eliminate or Reduce the Appearance of Scars

It is natural for the body to compensate for wounded areas of the skin by producing a scar. The size and extent of the scar will often be determined by the degree and care that was given to the original wound. Skin grafts and other rearrangement of scar tissue can also be done to construct a better looking patch of skin. This may be important to those people who receive obvious scarring from accidents, or even previous surgeries.

As with many other surgeries, the individual undergoing the procedure must be in fairly good health. If this is not the case, the skin may fail to accept the graft, or will simply not heal correctly. Other contraindications for scar revision surgery may include clinical obesity, diabetes, heart disease, and problems with smoking. Some medications, such as those used for blood thinning purposes, are also contraindicative to the success of the surgery.

In the US, scar revision price depends on the area to be treated. That means that a patient will need to consult with his doctor to find out just what needs to be done—and how. It is mostly done on an individual basis. Keep in mind that any surgery will also include the fees placed by the surgeon, facility, anesthesiologist, and other lab equipment used before, during, and after the procedure.

There may be risks of continued bleeding, pain, and swelling in the treated area. Infection may also occur, as well as the recurrence of scarring. Some people may have an allergic reaction to the anesthesia used during surgery. Other complications include seroma, slow healing, and chronic pain.
