Overweight And Aging

Overweight or obesity is more than a cosmetic problem; it is a real factor of illness and premature aging. It increases of risk of many medical conditions: hypertension, diabetes, cardiovascular disease, some cancers, and others. Unhealthy eating habits and excess weight can lead to chronic inflammation in certain organs of the body. In fact, losing weight for an obese person is sometimes a matter of life or death. So, if you are obese or overweight and follow an anti aging program losing weight is not an option but an obligation.

In addition to cardiovascular disease and development of certain cancers, overweight is also a factor of premature aging. According to the CSPI (Center for Science in the Public Interest), it is estimated that every 10% additional weight corresponds to one year and a half of premature aging, basing on body mass index (BMI). Excess weight gained during twenties and thirties is particularly more harmful.

In addition to these serious medical conditions: diabetes, cardiovascular disease and some cancers, excess weight can cause formation of stones in the liver and development or worsening of pain in the joints. In developed countries, overweight heels smoking as leading cause of preventable death. Do not neglect your abnormal weight in your fight against aging.

However, you should avoid taking drugs that can make you lose weight dangerously fast. Rapid weight loss is harmful to health. If you are overweight, it is best to choose a natural and healthy approach to lose weight. In addition to exercise, you can choose a diet that helps lose weight slowly but surely, and stabilize your weight.

To find out if your weight is normal, you can calculate your body mass index (BMI). In fact, in recent years, BMI becomes a practical tool to rate people’s weight. This index is calculated by dividing weight in kilograms (kg) by height in meters squared (m2): a person weighing 68 kilograms and measuring 1.7 meters, for example, has a BMI of 23.4 kg /m2 . You should know that BMI is not completely accurate; it ignores the presence or absence of abdominal fat - which is more dangerous to health. Healthy weight corresponds to a BMI between 18.5 and 25 kg/m2
