Hymenoplasty, Revirginization Is Now Possible

The hymen is a thin membrane of tissue that mostly covers the entrance to the vagina, leaving a relatively small opening for menstrual fluids to get through. This membrane is usually broken the first time a woman experiences intercourse, but can also be ruptured through tampon use, heavy sports activity, high diving, or falling from a cycle. However, in many religions and cultures, the signs of a ruptured hymen on the wedding night are very important and are a requirement for the marriage to take place. Hymenoplasty can help solve this issue.

Hymenoplasty is a cosmetic surgery that basically puts the hymen back together so that it can rupture naturally. This is often referred to as "re-virginization" surgery, because it restores the hymen to a virginal state. Because of religious, ethnic, or cultural beliefs, there are a number of women who seek out this surgery prior to marriage. Women in Middle Eastern and Latin American countries are more likely to want this surgery than women in European or Northern American countries. For a woman who has already borne children, most doctors will not perform this procedure. Hymenoplasty is not forcedly an anti aging treatment.

Hymenoplasty Procedure

Usually done on an outpatient business under local anesthesia, a hymenoplasty is a relatively short procedure that takes only a few minutes to perform. A quick procedure is done to help the small blood vessels in the area limit their bleeding. Dissolvable stitches are used to reconnect the skin membranes or edges of the hymen. These edges should grow together as the stitches dissolve. If there is not enough of the membrane left to repair, other methods are used to create a new hymen. There is a small enough opening left that the membrane will tear during the first instance of intercourse, and there should be bleeding and minor pain that accompany it.

Hymenoplasty Contraindications

Women who have poor blood clotting issues, a tendency toward complications with anesthesia or mental disorders should not opt for a hymenoplasty. A woman who has an inflamed vagina or an infection in the genital area should not have this procedure. Smokers should cease smoking at least three weeks prior to surgery.

Hymenoplasty Price

The average price of a hymenoplasty ranges from $1800 to $3000 and will depend on your location as well as surgeon's fees and any other fees associated with the facility or the anesthesia.

Hymenoplasty Complications

Complications of hymenoplasty surgery are minimal but may include allergic reaction to the anesthesia, fever or infection, which are all rare. Over-recession may occur, which could cause pain or discomfort during intercourse, but this could be remediated by your surgeon if it becomes a problem.
