Basically, a surgeon with plastic surgery experience and an eye for art will be able to remove what excess skin and tissues are drooping, sculpt the remaining tissues, and redrape the skin in a lifted position, so that the individual looks much younger than before. Often, this procedure is done with a local or general anesthesia, and can be done as an outpatient hospital procedure.

What incisions need to be made to lift the skin and remove tissues are generally placed in a site that will allow what scarring may occur to be hidden within natural folds of the face, in the hairline, or other places that are fairly undetectable.

It may be difficult for a person with poor elasticity of the skin to undergo a successful face lift. If there is not extra skin available, the result may end up that the person has a permanent “wide-eyed” look. Aspirin, blood thinning medication, and some acne medication can also be contraindicative for this surgery.

However, some people opt for the face lift a bit at a time: beginning with the brows, or perhaps working with the skin underneath the chin. However, each doctor offering this particular treatment may charge a different amount of money.

There are always going to be risks when an individual goes through a surgical procedure, and these will generally include things such as infection, allergy to anesthesia, overcorrection of the surgery, and damage to facial nerves. However, these seem to be minimal for most patients. Many, however, will feel tightness in the face, some swelling and sensitivity for some days following the face lift procedure.
