Breast Reduction Cost and Important Information

While some women want breast implants, other women are looking to have the opposite, breast reduction.  Breast reduction is cosmetic surgery used to reduce the size of breasts in women, and can relieve a lot of discomfort, embarrassment and pain.  For some of these women, breasts that are overly large cause pain and discomfort in the back and neck, and can also prevent them from participating in many activities such as swimming, exercising, and other daily activities.  In some cases, the reduction of breast size can do much to improve a woman’s beauty. A Breast Reduction is not forcedly an anti aging treatment.

Breast Reduction Procedure

Very similar, and yet just opposite of the procedure used to place implants in a woman’s breasts to increase their size, breast reduction involves an outpatient surgery where the patient is placed under local or general anesthesia.  Small incisions will be made in carefully calculated, and well-hidden areas.  Depending on what part of the breast is in excess, for example the fat, breast tissue, skin, or otherwise, these things will be carefully removed in such a way that the breasts will remain symmetrical following the surgery.  The remainder of skin on the breast will then be repositioned, so that there is a lifted appearance to the breast as a whole.

Breast Reduction Contraindications

The contraindications involved in breast reduction involve those women who are breastfeeding, or who have a history of lumps or other masses in the breasts.  Severe obesity can also be a contraindication to this procedure.  As always, those smokers who will not quit smoking for a week or so prior to the surgery, and will refrain from smoking for several weeks afterward, are not good candidates for this reduction procedure.

Breast Reduction Cost

The cost of a breast reduction will vary from location to location, also depending on the extent of the reduction and the individual’s need.  In 2007, however, the average cost of a reduction surgery was about $4,500.  This rate may fluctuate depending on the doctor, facility, and other factors.  To get a more accurate estimate of the cost that might be presented to you, consult with your doctor today.

Breast Reduction Complications

Most people will experience a redness and swelling at the treatment site, as well as a sensitivity to touch.  Sometimes, there may be nerve damage, and a loss of sensation in the breasts or nipples.  There will also be risk of infection, or adverse reactions to the anesthesia or pain medication.  There will be a great difference in the fullness of the breasts, and it is possible that breastfeeding may be difficult or impossible following the surgery. If you experience serious or painful symptoms, your Physician will prescribe you an appropriate treatment to fight against these health issues.
