Acne Scar - An Acne Scar
Doesn't Have To Be Permanent
Acne Scar Causes
Many people who have had issues with acne have heard that picking at or lancing
the pimples is the cause of formation of acne scar.
Actually, the problem goes deeper than that and begins when the lower layers of
the skin begin to form the pimples and cysts. Usually, the inflamed area is deeper than just the epidermis, or surface layer of the
skin. When the inflammation
affects the dermis, it can cause scarring, whether it is on the face, shoulders, back or anywhere on the
body.
When the natural oils produced by the skin get blocked as they try to exit the
pores, they will often become inflamed as the body tries to fight the problem. If the swelling and inflammation goes into the deeper
layers of the skin, it can rupture and cause the formation of an acne scar.
Although an acne scar can appear to be very similar to scars created from scrapes
or cuts, the difference is that those types of scars were created on the outside of the skin, while the acne scar
was created within the lower skin layers. Both types of scars are a result of the body doing its job and trying to heal
itself. The scar tissue is actually
a special kind of tissue that helped to mend the skin and protect the area from additional
damage. One difference with the
scars created by acne is that they are usually depressed rather than raised like normal
scars. This is because some
of the tissue is lost when the inflammation from the clogged pores occurs. It is good to know that there are treatments
available to help prevent scars from occurring as well as to minimize the appearance of any scars that you
may already have.
Acne Scar Treatment
You have heard that an ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure, and this is
definitely true in the case of an acne scar. If you can work to clear up acne quickly and properly, you will be less likely to have any
scarring.
Over the counter products are available to reduce the visible scarring that may
have already occurred. Depending on
how well these products work on you individually, they may be able to practically eliminate any visible signs of
scarring due to acne.
If these products are not doing a good enough job or if you want an acne scar
totally removed, you may want to look into treatments specifically for this problem, such as microdermabrasion and
dermabrasion. Work with your
dermatologist to see which treatment is right for you.
